Why do people bulk, why not just stay cut?
Q. After all, to grow u need good nutrition (protein) not calories. You can grow while ur cut right ? and muscle while u r cut ? (low body fat).

A. you need calories idk where you got that from its better to have more instead of less

On a low carb diet can you have the chicken broth (dry) mix u buy at a bulk food store?
Q. I don't know what it is called and can't find nutrition info. It's the chicken broth they have in big containers at the bulk food stores.
Asked by mermaid007 - Fri Oct 29 16:17:51 2010 - Diet & Fitness - 4 Answers - Comments

A. that is usually just flavored starches with not even chicken in it - l would say skip it. You can buy cans or cartons of chicken broth, that will make a quick soup when low carb vegs are added. I try to regularly make large batches of chicken bone stock & freeze them up. I buy the 10# of chicken leg quarters from Walmart for $5 & cook the meat & simmer the bones only for a couple of days to make bone stock. I add a splash of vinegar to help leach minerals into the liquid. The gelatin created is incredibly healthy & helps the body assimilate vitamins & minerals. I make a large pot of this & reduce it down & freeze it for soup bases.

does P90x make women bulk out and make there stomach look bigger?
Q. I want to lose my love handles and look slimmer. I have been using p90x for 2 days. I just got it but I want to make sure it will tone my body but not make it look like a body builder. Also how many weeks until I start seeing results on my stomach. Also, what are some good meals to eat throughout the day following the nutrition guide.
Asked by ChIcKacHiCkAwHa - Tue Jul 13 17:23:19 2010 - Diet & Fitness - 2 Answers - Comments

A. Yes, it will tone your body. It's almost impossible for women to "bulk up". Focus on lower weights and higher reps (12-15) like he says in the videos. I did the Lean version of P90X (see my profile pic) and had great results! Keep following the program and you WILL see results. Let me know if you want specific info on the meal plan - I followed it pretty much exactly and still follow it to the day. I'd be happy to help you!

a good meal plan for building muscle for a skinny guy?
Q. I go to the gym about 4 days a week and mostly have been focusing on my upper body, its been about 2 months in the gym. I have seen some results but i cant seem to get over my natural weight, I am wondering if anyone knows a good simple high protein diet to help me get the proper nutrition to bulk up and build muscle? thank you for your help!

A. ok i think we have to go one by one in your case how tall are you and if you wanna gain weight and muscle fast in natural way you have to 1)set your goal.Started 2 kg a month (pure beef) and 2)Protein only will never get you anywhere and 3rd)what comes to building muscle is Testosterone. so if you consume protein larger than other substance for the body you will loose weight and gain muscle in another words looks muscular but thin still at the end only will "look a lil bigger" But if you plan to overcome your natural weight you need to put on more Carbohydrate combine with Protein not high protein diet only. I am as much as you are before because I am a triathlon athlete and endurance type of exercise takes lots of combination of… [cont.]

traveling nutrition and weight training?
Q. I was wondering if there is anyone who travels pretty much year round around the world. If so,do you have problems maintaining muscle to stay bulk because of lack of nutrition, nutrition supplements, and free weights? I am not sure what countries allow you to bring your own creatine or protein powder with you(theymight think your smuggling drugs, especially if it is an open container). Also, because in america we are a bit spoiled the healthy foods may not be available , nor all the free weights to lead a bodybuilding lifestyle. My question is how do you counteract so much adverties while travelling. I myself am a hard gainer, so, extra activitiy or the lack thereof would make me skinny quite fast.

A. I pack a rubber tubing with handles for strength training the arms- works pretty good along with push-ups, tricep presses on a chair. If you want more options consider the Portable Lifeline Gym. You should be able to get by without protein powder, but I doubt they you will have a problem with it in your checked baggage as long as it's labeled. Diets in different countries vary, but it sounds like you know what to look for.

When should I take my mass gainer shake?
Q. I workout every day, take whey protein and creatine, and eat plenty of food, but due to my very high metabolism I can't really gain weight. My weights fluctuated from 170 to 175 over the past few months, but not any larger. I want to bulk up so I bought Ultimate Nutrition Muscle Juice 2544. I'm just curios on how I should take it. In the morning when I wake up, after my workout instead of my normal protein shake, or before I go to bed?
Asked by dinofossil123 - Sun Feb 20 16:20:49 2011 - Diet & Fitness - 1 Answers - Comments

A. Take it right after your workout. Put it in milk or mix it with yogurt and add peanut butter in to make a protein shake. If you take it immediately after your workout you ensure recovery for your muscles which will help build them. Since you're trying to bulk up have a double serving (you can put 2 scoops in or just have another shake/drink later on). Hope this helps!

Q. I ve been lifting but nutrition helps as well but i dont know what types of things to eat
Asked by jstheman00 - Sun Nov 26 13:24:09 2006 - Diet & Fitness - 4 Answers - Comments

A. I lift weights also. But I don't eat meat or dairy.you have to be able to eat,if you can't eat alot then you won't get bigger.I eat peanut butter, nuts(almonds, sunflower, any kind is good).Eat 5-6 times a day.Your body is able to absorb all of the protein better this way. After I lift weights I have fruit smoothie with rice protein added to it.Beans and rice are good also(but no white rice, white rice= empty calories)eat whole wheat breads,no white breads, also empty calories.Since you probably eat meat I would recommend fish or chicken.remember to consume a good amount of protein before you go to bed, because while you are sleeping your body is going on an eight hour "fast",while you are sleeping is the time when you muscles grow.Drink [cont.]

How would I modify p90x for mass gain?
Q. I bought p90x and am planning to follow the "Classic" workout. How would I change it for mass gains since I'm ridiculously skinny right now, but have very little muscle mass. So would it help me bulk up to have a toned lean body? Ps, do I really need to follow the nutrition plan if I'm not worried about slimming down?

Question about working out and nutrition?
Q. It is winter break soon and I need to get back in shape for Spring. With so many resources out there, facts often criss cross and debate with each other. I have heard that isolation exercises are not efficient because they do not work other muscles, is this true? And when is a good time to consume protein, before or after working out, and how long (before/after)? Thank you, I am mainly looking for a Some tone/Some bulk Upper Body Toned Lower body.

A. if you isolate chest muscles this day + arms, then legs the next day, then back and shoulder another day you can bulk up fast while allowing your muscles to have a day off. i like to eat protein after i work out because thats when you need it most, you want to eat it within 30 mins of working out Also check out this blog for great advice on nutrition and fitness:

A. I was a heavyweight so I just lifted weights to get as strong as I could and ran a mile every day. What you need is strength, endurance, and the ability to get a quick burst of speed. I never had a burst of speed so I am unsure how to get one.

Which Whey Protein should I get??? Optimum Nutrition or GNC?
Q. I am looking to start taking Whey protein for the first time I am trying to bulk up about 20lbs. I was wondering which protein is better from the following Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey or GNC Pro Preformance 100% Whey or other??? I currently have a weight gainer and I just want to put on muscle mass
Asked by Enigma - Tue Mar 4 10:27:13 2008 - Diet & Fitness - 4 Answers - Comments

A. Optimum Nutrition makes all of GNC's protein powders so they are the same products just labeled and priced differently. * I test sports supplements for many of the top manufacturers to increase muscle mass you need to increase the intake of all 3 macronutrients not just protein. protein is only part of the equation. your macros should be close to 30% protein, 50% carbs and 20% fats when bulking

A. i advise u to read about intensity in relation to weight lifting. It takes too much time to explain here. Just some short advice. Lift heavy, not too many reps and alternate betw. resting time. Periodization as one responent referred to is a good way to give your muscles different impulses. Periodiz is alternating between low weight-heigh reps, moderate weight-moderate reps and heavy weight-low reps, BUT focus on the heavy-low routine and do the other 2 just sometimes, say for 1 or 2 weeks at the most. Incorporate compound exercises into your workout such as: Deadlift, bench press, squat etc, they tend to realease more growth hormones then isolation exercises. Try to use more free weights then machines but for a change it is good to… [cont.]

Nutrition for my 12 year old son?
Q. My son is 12 years old and in great shape, although he is a little short for his age. He just started playing football, and they are about to put him, along with the entire team, on a weight training regimen. He wants to 1) eat healthy, 2) build up his endurance, and 3) put on a little more muscle, so as to "keep up" with his friends on the team. I am by no means wanting him to bulk up or over-do this, but I would like some advice on what and how he should eat.
